How the indicator works

The Tempix temperature indicator will reveal whether a particular product has been handled at too high temperatures during its journey from the producer to the final customer. When you see the black bar in the Tempix indicator, you can rest assured that the product has been kept at the correct temperature throughout the cold chain. Should the product have been exposed to temperatures above the recommended limit at any stage of its handling, the black bar will disappear from the window. The barcode will also be blocked out, meaning it cannot be read at the till. The indicator therefore acts as a guarantee that the product has been handled correctly from the producer all the way to the store’s cashier. Once the product is scanned at the till, it becomes the consumer’s responsibility to handle it correctly.

The Tempix temperature indicator also has a little bar that shows if the product has been exposed to too high temperatures during transport. This means that it is easy to see where the responsibility lies in the cold chain, from the producer through the transporter, shop and to the consumer.

The indicator is made from an absorbent part (thermo-paper label) and a container/label cap with an activator. All the parts are approved and the respective environmental impact is minimal. The indicator works in the -30°C to +30°C temperature range and is accurate to 0.5°C intervals.

Testimonials

The indicator is appreciated by both consumers and those in the trade. Below are two testimonials from sources in the industry. Do you want to know what others are saying? Feel free to contact CEO Mats Nygårdh and he will tell you more.

Per Unger

“The thing I appreciate most is the simplicity. With the price sticker with the indicator on products you don’t need any advanced technical equipment to check that the right temperature is being used. If anything goes wrong, you can see it right away.” Per Unger, CEO of Ewerman AB.

Pia Wågberg

The Tempix temperature indicator was developed in conjunction with, among others, INNVENTIA – one of the world’s leading R&D companies in the paper, packaging and graphic media industries.

“No other temperature indicator on the market is so beautifully simple. It works extremely well and is also easy to use”, says Pia Wågberg, the head of the Paper as an Information Medium department.

INNVENTIA is a major player in the packaging industry and their role in the project was to develop liquids with suitable temperature intervals for the indicator. They also point out the unique feature of blocking out the bar code if the product has been exposed to unacceptably high temperatures. Pia Wågberg explains:

“The temperature indicator is connected to an existing function. It means that the consumer can rest easy, with the product becoming impossible to scan at the till if it has been exposed to unacceptably high temperatures for a pre-determined time period. If the bar code is fine, it is also a guarantee that the contents are as fresh as the date stamp.”

Pia Wågberg thinks that the temperature indicator will also be welcomed by markets that are under significant economic pressure. She says:

“Development is ever faster, which means an increased risk of waste at different stages of the chain. At the same time, there is increasing demand for quality. This is why I think that serious shop owners will prefer the Tempix temperature indicator to show that they care about customers, that they can rest assured they are buying good products.”
